This morning started out quietly. I can feel something coming up for me, but it’s not at the surface yet, and I have learned to be patient. So it will be a quiet day. And while I wait there are household chores to take care of and some shopping.
Life has brought some interesting turns that make for creative innovations and new ways of doing things. I have to admit that part of these innovations are simplifying methods of doing things due to the aging process. My husband and I have a larger than usual round robin of doctor’s office visits lately, and we are grateful that nothing is worse that it is. I am finding that small joys bring me greater reward these days than the larger ones. Just being alive to hear the birds sing as Spring rolls in is huge, after a winter of Covid fears and home isolation.
I have been stream lining home operating procedures that make for less to do over the long run. Last fall I began “Operation Less Is More” – tossing or giving away things that we no longer use. I don’t want my heirs to have to clean up after me when I’m gone, remembering the huge chore cleaning out my parents’ home was. What has happened has been a life streaming video of good memories. I have been remembering old friends, some of whom I honestly never want to see again, but I can hold love and understanding for what they brought to my life at the time. Growing apart can be a positive thing. We took what we needed from each other and moved on.
I have fewer days left to my life to waste on regret. I would rather spend my time in wonderment and curiosity, delight and surprise. Some aging people focus all their attention on their aches and pains; while I admit to my moments, I don’t want my life to be caught up in that. So I started taking better care of my health. I have even started jogging again, an activity I expected my knees were too brittle to take on. So much for the power of negative imagination. Although my speed is slightly more than a shuffle, this type of exercise is actually strengthening the ligature around the joints and making for less pain. Speed and length of stride can be built. So I have decided that the “Less is More” philosophy extends to things beyond stuff!
Or would that be “More is Less” in terms of more exercise = less pain later on… Hmmm. Now I have that conundrum to occupy my aging brain…
