The Body Keeps The Score

I’ve been confronting old memories this week. There are old thoughts and ideas that I have been working to release in order to move forward with my life, freed (I hope) from triggers that have previously held me back. I was able to trace the source of fear back to childhood incidents from ages 2, 7, and 10. The purpose of this is not to whine and cry about stuff, but to witness and finish the process of forgiveness.

I feel this is funny sometimes. Not funny HA HA, but funny that emotions that have engaged so much of my life have hung on for so many years. I’ve been reading a lot about trauma and stress, and while psychology did not have many of these answers back in my youth, they do now. Bessel Van Der Volk, M.D. has a written a thorough book on the matter, called The Body Keeps the Score. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has struggled with trauma of one sort or another.

I had wanted to add more tonight, but I am running short on time. Please stay tuned, because this is a topic I have much to comment on.
